Green Schools

Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.

Ballybay N.S. has participated in this programme since 2001 and has successfully achieved ten flags in total.

School Year 2023 – 2024

Ballybay N.S. has a proud tradition of participating in the Green Schools initiative.

In September we established a new Green school Committee. We meet every month and discuss Green school issues.
Our first job was to organise some Spring bulb planting for the Junior and Senior Infants classes.
We also have some initiatives going throughout the school for the upcoming months.
Michael Bell will visit 4th, 5th and 6th class on November 8th 2023.
The initiative Food for Good is planned for 1st, 2nd and 3rd class in the month of November also.
We are currently working on our eleventh Green School Flag – Global Citizenship Food and Biodiversity.
We are excited to bring awareness of Food and Biodiversity to our school community and learn more about this theme over the coming school year.

Our Green Schools committee is made up of children from 3rd – 6th class, teacher representatives, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Connolly and Ms. Mulvey, as well as our school principal, Ms. O’ Toole and our caretaker John Fallon. Our class representatives are as follows – 3rd Class: Annie and Esme, 4th Class: Fionn and Seán, 5th Class: Keelan and Caoimhe, 6th Class A: Cullen and Judy and 6th Class B: Molly and Cian.
