Michael Bell came to visit the school on Wednesday 8th of November 2023. He visited 3rd – 6th class and we learned a lot from his broad knowledge on all things environmental.  Michael has many years of experience in working in ecological research with an interest in all aspects of nature. He is currently Chairperson of the Sligo Branch of Birdwatch Ireland and as well as birds, he has a keen interest in butterflies and moths and life along the seashore. He has an extensive collection of natural history items including stuffed animals, collection of animal skulls and photographs that can be used in the classroom. Michael is passionate about instilling an awareness and appreciation of local nature within children as that will ensure that future generations will take the actions needed to conserve biodiversity. We brought Michael out to visit our school garden, where we looked for mini-beasts and listened for different animal sounds in our environment. A big thank you to Michael for visiting and imparting so much knowledge.
