On Wednesday 22nd May, sixteen 6th Class pupils travelled to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght with Ms. Kincaid and Ms. Connolly for the 2024 Junior NBA Finals – Festival of Basketball. The Junior NBA programme sees 10 clubs partnered with 30 schools, who are each assigned an NBA team for the duration of the programme. Athlone Basketball Club was one of the clubs selected and we were one of the lucky schools chosen to participate this year. Ballybay CNS was twinned with the Dallas Mavericks NBA team and we proudly represented them in our full Dallas Mavericks kits. On the day, Basketball Ireland welcomed over 450 children from 30 schools across the island for a day of skills, drills and education. Participants also met former Irish NBA star Pat Burke, as well as former Ireland captain Jason Killeen. Everyone involved had a fantastic day, developing their basketball skills, and playing against other schools. A huge shout out goes to our basketball coach, Ciarán Kiveney and Athlone Basketball Club, who put so much into preparing us for the day.
